While it's preferable to use warmth and familiarity when dealing with close friends, using warmth when dealing with colleagues falls somewhere between informal and informal and formal. Using this word would be superfluous or inappropriate if it was not relevant to the rest of your letter. That would be redundant. It's the kind of matter that's so formal and dry that they would feel less personal if it were written in more simple terms, like “warm regards.”
